TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (中央氣象署) issued weather warnings Wednesday (Oct. 8) as northeast monsoon conditions bring scattered showers to northern regions. Keelung's north coast, Yilan County, and the Hengchun Peninsula (恆春) face the heaviest precipitation risks. Hualien, Taitung, and Greater Taipei's mountainous areas will experience isolated rainfall throughout the day.
Western Taiwan expects cloudy to sunny conditions with afternoon thunderstorms possible in central and southern areas. Temperatures will reach dangerous levels, with most regions experiencing highs of 31 to 34 degrees Celsius (88 to 93°F). Hsinchu, Miaoli, Taichung, and Tainan may record extreme temperatures of 35 to 36 degrees Celsius (95 to 97°F).
Officials recommend sun protection and frequent hydration as dangerous heat conditions persist across the island. Strong northeast winds will affect coastal areas from Taoyuan to Taichung, plus Hengchun Peninsula, Orchid Island, Green Island, Penghu, and Kinmen, with gusts reaching level 8. Higher tides threaten coastlines from New Taipei to Taichung, Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu through Thursday (Oct. 9). ◼
