TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) predicted on Tuesday (Oct. 7) that Typhoon Halong (哈隆颱風) would veer northeast, posing minimal threats to Japan and Taiwan during the National Day (Oct. 10) long weekend. However, meteorologists have stated that residents in Pacific coastal areas, including Nagoya and Shizuoka, should prepare for some rain.
National Central University associate professor of atmospheric sciences Wu Der-romg (吳德榮) assured that Typhoon Halong remains distant from Taiwan, leaving the island's weather unaffected. Wu forecasted mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies across Taiwan from Wednesday (Oct. 8) to Friday (Oct. 10), with brief afternoon showers in mountainous regions. He added that moisture levels would slightly increase on Taiwan's east side, bringing chances of brief showers on the north coast and eastern areas.
The Taiwan Typhoon Forum | Weather Express (台灣颱風論壇|天氣特急) analyzed that Typhoon Halong would pass south of Japan on Thursday (Oct. 9). Wu noted that temperatures would slightly drop in northern Taiwan, while other regions would remain hot during the day. Saturday (Oct. 11), Sunday (Oct. 12), and the following Monday (Oct. 13) will see similar weather patterns, with sunny to partly cloudy skies and occasional showers in the afternoon.
