TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taichung Mayor Lu Hsiu-yen (盧秀燕) announced Tuesday (Oct. 7) that the National Day Gala will take place Thursday (Oct. 9) at the Fulfillment Amphitheatre (圓滿戶外劇場). Free admission begins at 4:30 p.m. with public queuing, featuring the theme "Republic of China, Taiwan Flavor, Taichung Style." Chen Mei-hsiu (陳美秀), head of the Taichung Tourism and Travel Bureau (台中市觀光旅遊局), the city's tourism authority, emphasized the event's fusion of traditional and innovative elements.
The gala features prominent Taiwanese entertainers Hu Kua (胡瓜), Pai Ping-Ping (白冰冰), Yang Fan (陽帆), and Yeh Ai-ling (葉璦菱) in a diverse entertainment lineup. Hip-hop acts Nine One One (玖壹壹) and Flesh Juicer (血肉果汁機) will perform alongside traditional cultural groups including the Chio-Tian Folk Drums & Art Troupe (九天民俗技藝團) and Taiwan Acrobatic Troupe (台灣特技團).
Lu advised attendees to use public transportation due to expected heavy traffic from over 100 buses transporting overseas compatriots to the significant event. Xiangshang Road near the venue will close from 2 p.m. to midnight to accommodate the large crowds and complex transportation logistics. The comprehensive closure affects the main access route to the Fulfillment Amphitheatre during the celebration.
Taichung City will host a flag-raising ceremony Thursday morning in addition to the evening festivities and entertainment programs. Lu announced participants will receive early bird gifts, with 6,000 three-in-one lamps distributed from 6:30 a.m. until supplies last. The city invites all residents and returning expatriates to participate in these National Day celebrations, emphasizing the blend of cultural heritage and modern elements. ◼
