Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) pledged Thursday (Oct. 2) to assist the global chipmaker within legal boundaries as the company seeks to boost operations in Taiwan's capital.
Shin Kong Life Insurance sought to transfer superficies rights for Beitou Shilin Technology Park (北士科) T17 and T18 plots directly to NVIDIA. Profiteering concerns stalled progress as NVIDIA preferred acquiring undeveloped land for construction. Disputes over termination fees created additional complications, leaving negotiations at an impasse between the insurance company and technology giant.
New Taipei City Mayor Hou You-yi (侯友宜) courted NVIDIA with alternative location options, highlighting comprehensive industrial facilities near Linkou (林口) A9 MRT Airport Station. Taipei City Councilor Chang Wei-yuan (詹為元) criticized Shin Kong Life Insurance's profit-seeking approach without accepting losses.
