TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Six Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) chairmanship candidates will participate in their first televised debate Thursday (Oct. 2). The event, co-hosted by TVBS and United Daily News (UDN, 聯合報), Taiwan's major media outlets, aims to provide a platform for hopefuls of Taiwan's main opposition party to express their visions and help the public understand their positions.
Amber Chien (錢怡君), a TVBS host, will moderate the debate while TVBS News Deputy Manager Fan Chi-ming (樊啓明) and United Daily News Deputy Editor-in-Chief Tsai Hui-ping (蔡惠萍) lead media questioning. The two-and-a-half-hour debate includes four stages: opening statements, media questions, cross-examinations, and closing arguments. The event will air live on TVBS Channel 56 and online platforms.
TVBS and United Daily News invited representatives from each candidate's camp to pre-debate consultations, ensuring smooth proceedings through signed participation agreements. Chien emphasized the event's significance, noting the importance of candidates expressing their visions clearly while maintaining gentlemanly competition standards. ◼
