TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Eslite Songshan 24-hour bookstore (誠品松菸24小時書店), Taiwan's iconic round-the-clock literary destination, reopened Friday (Sept. 26) after a comprehensive renovation that expanded its collection to 250,000 volumes. The bookstore chain, a cultural institution in Taiwan, introduced design elements inspired by its flagship Xinyi (信義) and former Dunnan (敦南) locations to enhance the reading experience.
The renovated space showcases elegant teak reading stairs and a 40-meter reading corridor designed for enhanced spatial transparency and contemplative browsing. Eslite increased its book inventory by 10%, surpassing its former flagship Dunnan store while preserving Songshan's distinctive character. The redesign maintains the cherished 24-hour reading culture that has become synonymous with Taiwan's literary landscape.
The bookstore simultaneously announced its new "Eslite Reader Badge" (誠品讀書人徽章) membership program, scheduled to begin in 2026. Members will receive exclusive checkout services at eight designated stores nationwide, commemorative badges, and priority access to reading events. Additional benefits include e-book discount coupons, free shipping for qualifying purchases, and invitations to annual book-buying discounts.
The 24-hour operations have proven remarkably successful since launching in January 2024, generating a 30% increase in foot traffic and 70% growth in overall performance. Eslite Songshan is celebrating with an 18-day anniversary promotion offering NT$100 (around US$3.27) rewards for every NT$1,000 (around US$32.70) spent. The promotion features curated selections from belonging select and Journal Standard.
