TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's first disaster prevention training program designed specifically for women launched Thursday (Sept. 4) at the New Taipei City Fire Department. This groundbreaking initiative marks a significant step in the island's emergency preparedness efforts. Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) and New Taipei City Deputy Mayor Liu Ho-jan (劉和然) attended the inaugural session.

Deputy Mayor Liu called for nationwide collaboration to expand New Taipei City's impressive emergency response facilities, which have earned praise from both the Minister of the Interior and the vice president. Vice President Hsiao showcased the fire department's innovative smart duty desk technology, which automatically displays incident addresses on screens, prints essential report information, and opens garage doors when disasters strike. This automated system significantly reduces firefighter response times during critical emergency situations.

The department utilizes cutting-edge virtual reality technology to create realistic disaster scenario simulations for comprehensive training experiences. Deputy Commander Chen Cheng-yen (陳政彥) emphasized that these simulations accurately recreate historical incidents, including the devastating May 7, 2012, Hsuehshan Tunnel disaster. The comprehensive training program spans ten sessions, with female participants concentrating on mastering cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques and other essential emergency response skills.
