TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Typhoon Podul will impact Taiwan's weather Wednesday (Aug. 13) through the first half of Thursday, bringing strong winds and heavy rainfall across the island. The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署), Taiwan's meteorological agency, advised residents to prepare early for the approaching storm. The typhoon or its peripheral circulation will affect the entire island beginning Wednesday.

Monday (Aug. 11) will bring isolated showers or thunderstorms to central and southern coastal areas across Taiwan. Other regions will experience partly cloudy to clear conditions with occasional afternoon thunderstorms developing in western areas, northeastern regions, and mountainous zones of Hualien and Taitung counties. These weather patterns precede the typhoon's anticipated arrival later in the week.

Typhoon Podul's approach Tuesday (Aug. 13) will bring showers or thunderstorms to northern, northeastern, and eastern Taiwan, while central and southern regions face brief periods of precipitation. The storm's rapid movement will concentrate significant rainfall within a single day across affected areas. Weather conditions may improve once the typhoon moves westward toward mainland China

Rough seas are anticipated around the typhoon's center, with wave heights reaching 4 to 5 meters, making coastal activities extremely dangerous. Wednesday (Aug. 14) will see the typhoon moving away from Taiwan, reducing rainfall intensity while intermittent showers persist in western, southeastern regions, Penghu, and Kinmen islands. Thursday through Saturday (Aug. 15-17), eastern and southeastern areas plus the Hengchun Peninsula will experience isolated showers, while other regions remain mostly cloudy to sunny with afternoon thunderstorms. ◼
