TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan braces for continued rainfall and potential thunderstorms Tuesday (July 22) as the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) reports a persistent low-pressure system affecting the region. Moisture levels are decreasing, yet scattered showers or thunderstorms remain likely across various areas of the island nation. Rain will be shorter in eastern Taiwan than Monday, while western regions will experience more localized rainfall patterns throughout the day. The weather system continues to influence Taiwan's atmospheric conditions, creating unpredictable precipitation patterns across different geographical areas of the island.

Authorities warn of heavy rain possibilities in Hualien, Taitung, and parts of central and southern Taiwan during afternoon hours throughout the region. The administration advises caution for those venturing into mountainous areas due to recent continuous rainfall across the island's terrain. Temperatures rise as precipitation decreases, with highs ranging from 29 to 32 degrees Celsius (84.2 to 89.6°F) and lows between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius (75.2 to 78.8°F). These temperature fluctuations reflect the changing weather patterns as the low-pressure system gradually weakens its influence over Taiwan's climate conditions.

Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu face brief showers or thunderstorms on the islands, with temperatures between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius (77 to 86°F). Strong winds, potentially reaching gusts of over eight on the Beaufort scale, are expected in coastal areas of New Taipei, Taoyuan, and other regions. The southeastern coast, including Orchid Island (蘭嶼) and Green Island (綠島), faces 2-meter (6.6-foot) wave risks, prompting safety warnings for beach activities. These offshore islands and coastal areas remain particularly vulnerable to the weather system's effects, requiring heightened awareness from residents and visitors.

The annual high tide increases seawater intrusion risks in Tainan, Kaohsiung, and other coastal areas across southern Taiwan's vulnerable shoreline. The Taiwan Air Quality Monitoring Network (環境部空氣品質預報) reports that eastern winds may lead to moderate air quality in western regions. Hsinchu, Miaoli, and other areas maintain "Good" air quality status during this period, providing some relief for residents. Residents should stay informed and exercise caution amid these changing weather and environmental conditions affecting multiple aspects of daily life. ◼
