TAIPEI (TVBS News) — National Taiwan University (NTU, 國立台灣大學) College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (電機資訊學院) launched the platform to internationalize talent and advance research in the AI sector under cooperation with various tech giants, on Wednesday (July 9). ASUS (華碩) Chairman Jonney Shih (施崇棠) attended the event and emphasized the urgent need for Taiwan to cultivate deep AI talent.

ASUS announced its participation in the cross-enterprise talent development platform initiated by NTU. Shih urged Taiwan to break from past educational norms and invest in more complex and in-depth technological research. He believes integrating academia and industry will strengthen the connection between faculty, students, and the industry.

Shih reflected on his decision 50 years ago to join the computer division of the electrical engineering department, witnessing the rise of Taiwan's computer industry. He noted the evolution of computers from 'electric computers' to 'electric brains' with the advent of generative AI and large language models.

Highlighting the global impact of DeepSeek's recent developments, Shih mentioned the company's performance in AI, which even Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, praised. Shih further noted ASUS has closely monitored DeepSeek for nearly a year, aiming to leverage its collaboration with Taiwan University to nurture internationally competitive high-tech talent.

The collaboration between the university and industries, partnered with six companies, including Quanta Computer Inc. (廣達), Wistron Corporation (緯創), PEGATRON Corporation (和碩), Delta Electronics, Inc. (台達電), and Fitipower Integrated Technology Inc. (天鈺科技), to create an innovative talent development mechanism. This platform will focus on three core projects: a global elite training program, a top Ph.D. cultivation project, and establishing a lecture professor and scholar program over the next five years.
