TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Power Company (Taipower, 台電) announced on Friday (June 20) its extensive efforts to support the government's deep energy-saving policy. The company has organized nearly 50 forums for major users and visited over 5,000 businesses across Taiwan, predicting energy savings of approximately 150 million kWh.
Taiwpower offers energy-saving diagnostics and collaborates with Energy Service Companies (ESCO) to help enterprises improve energy efficiency through equipment upgrades and management measures. Since 2019, the company has established energy diagnostic centers in northern, central, and southern Taiwan, providing free energy-saving guidance for large users with contract capacities of 100 to 800 kW.
Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital (花蓮慈濟醫院) exemplifies the benefits of these initiatives. Since replacing chillers, cooling towers, and indoor lighting, the hospital has saved 2 million kWh annually, achieving a 70% energy-saving rate. Similarly, Lung Shing Refrigerating Works Co. (隆興冷凍廠) in Kaohsiung implemented Taiwpower's recommendations, saving 2.2 million kWh yearly by upgrading outdated equipment and adopting energy management systems.
Taiwpower advises users to evaluate transformers older than 30 years for replacement with high-efficiency models to enhance electricity efficiency and reduce costs. The Taiwan Electric Research and Testing Center (台灣大電力研究試驗中心) anticipates saving 140,000 kWh annually and reducing electricity expenses by about NT$700,000 after upgrading to high-efficiency transformers.
