TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The ongoing war between Israel and Iran has prompted the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Tel Aviv (駐以色列代表處) to assist 36 Taiwanese citizens in evacuating overland to Jordan. Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) announced on Friday (June 20) that more than 200 Taiwanese remain in the region, maintaining direct contact with authorities.
Minister Lin revealed through a Facebook post and video that Representative Lee Ya-ping (李雅萍) accompanied the evacuees during an Iranian missile attack, which activated Israel's Iron Dome defense system. The office's staff diligently supported the evacuation efforts. The Taipei office continues to aid citizens, with 36 successfully reaching Jordan, while over 200 remain in contact with the Foreign Ministry.
Regarding Taiwanese citizens in Iran, Lin confirmed that of the nine previously contacted, three have left, three are preparing to go, and three have planned their exit routes. Lin urged them to stay vigilant. Lin criticized China's inclusion of Taiwanese holding Mainland travel permits in its evacuation efforts, calling it opportunistic propaganda. He emphasized that Taiwan has efficiently managed its citizens' safety and evacuation without the Chinese embassy's involvement.
The Foreign Ministry remains committed to ensuring the safety of its citizens amid escalating regional tensions. Taiwanese authorities continue safeguarding and assisting their nationals abroad as the situation unfolds.
