TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) on Thursday (June 19) attended a celebration in honor of King Charles III's birthday organized by the British Office Taipei. Lin expressed gratitude to the U.K. government for supporting Taiwan's international participation and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
Lin noted the U.K.'s position as Taiwan's second-largest investment source in Europe and its third-largest investment destination. He hoped for future agreements in investment, digital trade, energy, and net-zero emissions. Lin also urged the U.K. to publicly support Taiwan's entry into the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) to foster prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
Ruth Bradley-Jones (包瓊郁), representing the British Office Taipei, highlighted the shared values of freedom and democracy between Taiwan and the U.K., stating that bilateral relations are flourishing. Bradley-Jones expressed eagerness to deepen cooperation in the economic, trade, technology, and cultural sectors.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA, 外交部) reported that the event attracted over 300 guests, including National Security Council (NSC, 國安會) Secretary-General Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) and Legislative Yuan (立法院) Deputy Speaker Johnny Chiang (江啟臣). The grand event underscored the friendly ties between Taiwan and the U.K.
