TAINAN (TVBS News) — Tainan's Bureau of Tourism (台南市政府觀光旅遊局) announced on Friday (June 20) that the Tainan Anping (台南安平) to Penghu Magong (澎湖馬公) ferry route will launch on July 8. The route will operate on Tuesdays and Fridays, accommodating 150 passengers per trip and taking approximately 2.5 hours each way.
Lin Kuo-hua (林國華), director of Tainan's Bureau of Tourism, revealed that the initial fare will be NT$1,200 for a one-way ticket. Lin also mentioned plans to collaborate with travel agencies to offer package deals, including island-hopping tours. Tainan's Bureau of Tourism plans to hold a press conference next Thursday to provide more details on fares, itineraries, and ticket purchasing options.
Tainan City Councilor Li Chih-wei (李啟維) highlighted the route's significance, noting the historical ties and the importance of convenient transportation between Tainan and Penghu. Li thanked Director Lin for securing the route and urged citizens to utilize it to foster deeper exchanges and cooperation. Li also emphasized that ferry tickets should remain competitive and affordable compared to airfares.
The Tainan Anping to Magong route has faced challenges in maintaining stability, with previous regular services disrupted by the pandemic and typhoons. The route has been inactive since March 2024. The upcoming launch marks a significant step in restoring this crucial connection, with expectations for it to strengthen regional ties and boost tourism.
