TAIPEI (TVBS News) — French tech startup ITEN debuted its latest innovation in micro battery technology at the 2025 COMPUTEX on Wednesday (May 20), promising a safer and more sustainable energy solution for future battery applications. The company's micro batteries, designed specifically for the microelectronics industry, feature enhanced safety measures, complete recyclability and rapid recharge capabilities while maintaining high energy levels.
"These micro batteries exclude hazardous materials, which leads to convenience in the recycling process and meets the global need to be environmentally friendly," said Axel Fischer, ITEN's Chief commercial officer, explained that these micro batteries can be directly soldered onto printed circuit boards, integrating seamlessly with surface mount technology (SMD) that supports high-volume electronics manufacturing.
"The company aims to avoid disposable products like coin cells by integrating energy harvesting for batteries," Fischer said, highlighting the sustainable approach behind their technology. A key component of the system is the power management integrated circuit (IC) that efficiently utilizes photovoltaic sources to manage energy, ensuring products can function for their entire lifetime without battery replacement.
"There's a power management IC, which is taking care of powering the various type of chips and as well, to take the incoming energy from the photovoltaic. And here we have then the energy storage element from eaten, which is allowing to store the energy, to buffer it and to release it when it is needed. Once it has released, then it will be recharged again. This can work forever, so to say. And it is a very convenient lifetime product without any replacement needed," Fischer explained. The micro batteries were initially conceptualized for Internet of Things (IoT) devices and sensors, but their application potential has expanded significantly.
"Microelectronics is the main focus area for development, and these micro batteries can be further utilized in various industrial applications, such as consumer wearables and medical devices," Fischer noted during the presentation. Currently in production, ITEN plans to expand its product portfolio and scale up manufacturing to meet growing high-volume demands from various sectors.
Fischer emphasized the strategic importance of Taiwan's premier technology exhibition for the company's growth plans. "Taiwan Computex is a critical platform for ITEN to engage with customers and showcase collaborations within a broader ecosystem," he said. The company's presence at COMPUTEX 2025 underscores the growing importance of sustainable battery solutions in an increasingly connected world, where power management for small electronic devices presents both environmental and technical challenges.
ITEN joins four other French startups at the Choose France pavilion within InnoVEX, the startup-focused segment of COMPUTEX Taipei. The micro battery developer is showcasing its technology alongside more than 1,500 exhibitors at the 2025 COMPUTEX, which runs through Friday, featuring innovations in computing, artificial intelligence and Internet of Things applications. ◼
