TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The chairman of one of Taiwan's largest financial conglomerates on Tuesday (May 13) made a rare mid-season appearance at Xinzhuang Baseball Stadium (新莊棒球場), a major baseball venue in New Taipei City, to rally the struggling Fubon Guardians (富邦悍將隊), his company's professional baseball team in Taiwan's top league. The visit comes as the club endures a punishing six-game losing streak, compiling a dismal 7-21 record that has anchored them at the bottom of the standings.
During his visit, Fubon Group Chairman Daniel Tsai (蔡明忠) held closed-door meetings with the team's leadership, including head coach Chen Chin-feng (陳金鋒), a former baseball star widely revered in Taiwan, and several top executives: team manager Lin Hua-wei (林華韋), executive vice manager Kuo Tai-yuan (郭泰源), and vice manager Lin Wei-chu (林威助). Speaking to reporters afterward, Lin Hua-wei relayed Tsai's central message about reigniting player passion and honoring fan loyalty despite the disappointing results.
When pressed about potential coaching changes amid the prolonged slump, Lin firmly dismissed such speculation, maintaining the organization's commitment to its current leadership structure. The team manager acknowledged performance deficiencies requiring attention but deliberately avoided detailing specific weaknesses. We will continue our diligent work to address these issues, Lin assured, as the organization attempts to salvage a season that has thus far disappointed the passionate Taiwanese baseball fanbase that regularly fills the 12,500-seat stadium. ★
