TAICHUNG (TVBS News) — Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen (盧秀燕) unveiled plans on Tuesday (May 13) to extend a culinary invitation to NVIDIA (輝達) CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳), who is scheduled to arrive in Taiwan later in the day. The mayor hopes to compensate for Huang's previous visit when overwhelming crowds compelled the tech executive to abandon his planned excursion to Fengjia Night Market (逢甲夜市), one of Taiwan's most popular outdoor bazaars.
Mayor Lu championed her city's gastronomic prestige, declaring Taichung's cuisine to be "the best in the world." She noted that Fengjia Night Market stands as Taiwan's largest such attraction, while Dajia Night Market (大甲夜市) recently claimed the top position in a nationwide survey. During Huang's previous visit, city officials arranged for night market delicacies to be delivered directly to his hotel after public excitement prevented his personal appearance.
Local residents and city officials have voiced collective optimism that the NVIDIA chief will include Taichung in his itinerary during this Taiwan visit. "Everyone hopes Jensen Huang can come to Taichung, taste our food, and visit our night markets," Mayor Lu said, expressing a desire to rectify the disappointment from his curtailed previous visit when security concerns prevented his public appearances.
Tourism officials view Huang's potential visit as an opportunity to showcase Taichung's culinary heritage on an international stage. The tech executive, whose company has become central to the global artificial intelligence boom, draws significant attention wherever he appears in Taiwan. His participation in local cultural activities would spotlight the city's efforts to position itself as a destination for both technology professionals and culinary enthusiasts. ★
