TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Meteorologist Wu De-rong (吳德榮) reported a significant weather shift in Taiwan on Monday (May 12), as the front moved southward in the Bashi Channel (巴士海峽), bringing an end to rainfall and ushering in clear, stable conditions. Daytime temperatures will rise noticeably, marking a transition to warmer weather.
Wu, writing in a column at National Central University (NCU, 中央大學), predicted sunny, cloudless skies across Taiwan on Tuesday (May 13) and Wednesday (May 14). He forecasted daytime highs reaching up to 35 degrees Celsius, with strong ultraviolet rays, urging residents to take sun protection measures. Wu also cautioned about the significant temperature difference between day and night, with lows around 17 degrees Celsius due to nighttime radiative cooling, suggesting adjustments in clothing.
From May 15 to 19, Wu anticipated mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies with daytime heat comparable to summer. He noted a slight increase in moisture, leading to a chance of brief, isolated afternoon showers in mountainous areas. On May 20, as the front approaches, Wu said that it can expected to have continued hot weather with slightly intensified convection in the afternoon, affecting a broader area.
Wu further pointed out the uncertainty in weather models for May 21, with the European model simulating the front remaining over northern seas and the American model suggesting landfall. Both models are still being adjusted.
