TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) announced plans to inaugurate a new Sports Ministry (運動部) in August or September during a legislative session on Tuesday (April 29). Cho stated that this ministry aims to encompass various aspects, including public sports, competitive sports, international affairs, and the sports industry, marking a significant departure from the existing Sports Administration.
Furthermore, Cho responded to questions from Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) legislator Tsai Chi-chang (蔡其昌), stating that the selection for the minister and deputy minister remains undecided. He hopes to appoint a very fresh, eye-catching, and forward-thinking new minister. Cho emphasized the need for a minister with a diverse perspective, noting ongoing discussions to find suitable candidates.
DPP legislator Lee Kuen-cheng (李坤城) inquired about the criteria for the ministerial role. Cho explained that the initial phase will require skilled civil servants to manage complex administrative tasks effectively. Meanwhile, Tsai proposed establishing a sports museum and urged the government to expedite the creation of a Taiwan Baseball Museum.
In response to the baseball musuem, Cho expressed his belief that Taiwan baseball should be part of world baseball history. He advocated for collaboration between the government and private organizations to preserve a comprehensive baseball history for future generations.
