TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Generative AI's rapid development is reshaping humanities and social sciences education across Taiwan's universities. As institutions adapt by integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into traditional liberal arts programs, educators are increasingly recommending students pursue double majors to meet the growing demand for cross-disciplinary skills in an AI-dominated future.

Chen Chao-ming (陳超明), former dean of National Chengchi University's (NCCU, 政大) College of Foreign Languages and Literature, highlights an unexpected advantage for humanities students. "Liberal arts majors demonstrate stronger abilities in writing AI prompts, compared to STEM-based students. They get the upper hand in this aspect," he observes, emphasizing the value of communication skills when interacting with generative AI systems.

While artificial intelligence has transformed traditional humanities fields, it has simultaneously created new opportunities for value creation. Educational institutions across Taiwan are now planning broader integration of AI technologies into liberal arts curricula, ensuring graduates possess the AI-related skills necessary to remain competitive in an evolving job market.

NCCU Interdisciplinary Artificial Intelligence Center Director Liu Jyi-shane (劉吉軒) emphasizes AI's inevitable role in future work environments. "Understanding and utilizing AI technologies is crucial for future workplace competitiveness," Liu notes, pointing to AI's growing presence in both professional and personal contexts.

Recent employment data reflect the significance of this shift. According to April statistics from the 1111 job bank, AI-related job openings have surged to 14,000 positions, representing an impressive 11% increase compared to the same period last year. Higher education specialists suggest that humanities students who develop effective AI utilization skills during their academic careers will likely experience reduced anxiety about potential job displacement in an increasingly automated workforce. ★
