HUALIEN (TVBS News) — The Hualien County magistrate announced plans to attend a rally organized by the Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) on Ketagalan Boulevard (凱達格蘭大道) on Saturday (April 26). Hualien County Magistrate Hsu Chen-wei (徐榛蔚) urged the central government to focus on economic growth and citizens' welfare. Hsu highlighted the global economic impact of the U.S.-initiated tariff war, emphasizing Taiwan's challenges amid international instability and internal political strife.
Hsu called on the central government to support industries during the tariff war, aiming to mitigate the effects of inflation and consumer contraction on industries and Hualien's tourism sector. She expressed concern over the economic repercussions, urging decisive action to protect local interests. Her statements underscore the urgency for governmental intervention to stabilize the economic landscape.
Regarding the recall initiative against KMT Legislator Fu Kun-chi (傅崐萁) by Hualien civic groups, Hsu respected citizens' rights to vote and recall. However, she questioned the Central Election Commission's (中央選委會) and judicial units' focus on the KMT while allegedly overlooking the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨). Hsu demanded a consistent standard in evaluating recall cases, advocating for fairness in the electoral process.
