TAINAN (TVBS News) — The southern Taiwanese city of Tainan is preparing to welcome musicians from across the globe for the 24th annual "Tainan May Jam" (台南5月音樂季) music festival at the picturesque Xinhua Hutoupi Scenic Area (新化虎頭埤風景區). The two-day cultural fusion event, scheduled for May 3-4, will showcase 28 musical groups representing 11 countries, including Taiwan.
Officials from the Tainan City Tourism Bureau (台南觀旅局) unveiled details of the event during a press conference at Yonghua City Hall (永華市政中心) on Tuesday. Mr. Axel, the German-born founder of the festival who has developed a deep affection for Tainan, performed an original composition at the gathering. He highlighted the diverse lineup featuring independent bands from ten countries, including the United Kingdom, Canada, and France, all with members who have made Taiwan their home.
This festival provides a unique platform for foreign musical talents who have chosen to build their careers in Taiwan, according to Tourism Bureau Director Lin Guo-hua (林國華). Lin invited the public to immerse themselves in both the musical performances and the festival's vibrant marketplace. Approximately 15 diverse vendor stalls will populate the venue, offering an array of international cuisines, traditional indigenous dishes, locally sourced agricultural products, and artisanal clothing.
Addressing potential transportation concerns, organizers have arranged complimentary shuttle service from Tainan Transfer Station to the festival grounds. The buses will operate hourly between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m. throughout the weekend, ensuring convenient access for all attendees. With its rich blend of international music, diverse culinary offerings, and cultural exchanges, the May Jam festival has become a hallmark event that attracts both local residents and tourists seeking an authentic cross-cultural experience in southern Taiwan. ★
