TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's semiconductor industry reached unprecedented heights in 2024, with production soaring to NT$5.3 trillion (around US$160.6 billion) in 2024, a robust 22% increase from the previous year, Taiwan Semiconductor Industry Association (TSIA, 台灣半導體產業協會) Chairman Cliff Hou (侯永清) announced at the organization's annual general assembly on Friday. Despite looming challenges from global market uncertainties and American tariff policies, Hou expressed confidence in the sector's resilience and continued growth trajectory.

The TSIA chairman highlighted Taiwan's dominant position in the global semiconductor landscape, noting the island's unrivaled leadership in packaging, testing, and wafer manufacturing, while maintaining a strong second-place ranking in chip design. Looking ahead, Hou projected an ambitious 16.2% growth for 2025, with production values anticipated to climb to NT$6.2 trillion (around US$187.9 billion). He underscored the exceptional comprehensiveness of Taiwan's semiconductor ecosystem, calling it the most complete and advanced in the world, and urged both domestic and international companies to deepen their investments in the island's thriving tech infrastructure.

Over the past two years, the association has significantly expanded its influence, Hou noted, providing critical guidance to government officials on industry regulations, energy policies, talent development initiatives, and chemical management protocols. TSIA's membership has grown substantially with 56 new companies joining its ranks, reinforcing the organization's position as the voice of Taiwan's semiconductor sector. A newly formed equipment committee, Hou explained, will serve as a vital communication channel between industry leaders and government officials, focusing particularly on addressing concerns about energy supply stability and maintaining competitive electricity pricing structures.

In his closing remarks, Hou urged member companies to develop innovative strategies for weathering international market uncertainties and navigating the complex landscape of U.S. tariff policies, while simultaneously working to attract additional foreign semiconductor firms to Taiwan's shores. He called for continued government support through favorable industrial policies and competitive taxation frameworks, emphasizing the need for regulatory agility in response to rapidly evolving international conditions to maintain Taiwan's formidable position in the global semiconductor arena.
