TAINAN — AMD (超微), the global semiconductor powerhouse, inaugurated its newest Taiwan office in Tainan (台南) on Monday (March 24), marking a strategic expansion in the island's burgeoning AI ecosystem. Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) heralded the development as a transformative moment for the southern city's growing technology sector, positioning it as an emerging hub in Taiwan's advanced computing landscape.

AMD Taiwan's General Manager Chen Min-hao (陳民皓) presided over the ribbon-cutting ceremony, welcoming dignitaries and industry representatives to the company's southern Taiwan outpost. Mayor Huang delivered enthusiastic remarks celebrating the investment in his city. Strategically situated within Guiren District's (歸仁區) cybersecurity and smart technology R&D complex, the facility reinforces Tainan's increasingly vital position within Taiwan's semiconductor ecosystem and highlights the region's growing technological significance.

During his address, Mayor Huang referenced Premier Cho Jung-tai's (卓榮泰) June 2024 initiative establishing Taiwan's pioneering AI industry zone within the Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City (沙崙智慧綠能科學城). The mayor underscored Tainan's strategic location at the heart of Taiwan's high-tech "S corridor," touting the region's considerable advantages including substantial renewable energy resources, robust digital infrastructure through the southern backbone network, and a concentrated pool of semiconductor talent that continues to expand.

Tainan's unique convergence of sustainable energy production, computational capacity, and specialized workforce creates an optimal environment for AI industry growth, according to Mayor Huang. He highlighted the Shalun development's impressive roster of established institutions and noted the imminent completion of commercial attractions like the Mitsui Outlet Phase II. Looking forward, Huang outlined plans for complementary developments including specialized medical service facilities and innovation parks, expressing confidence that these enhancements will further elevate Tainan's profile as a technology destination and catalyze broader economic development throughout the region.
