TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Authorities searched properties connected to prominent Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) legislator Fu Kun-chi (傅崐萁) on Friday (March 14) as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged campaign finance violations. The Taipei District Prosecutors Office (台北地檢署) executed search warrants at "Zhan Tianxia Co., Ltd." (戰天下有限公司) and the Taichung and Hualien residences of a defendant surnamed Lee. The searches represent an escalation in the investigation into the company's financial dealings.
The investigation centers on allegations that the company violated several laws, including the "Business Entity Accounting Act" (商業會計法), the "Public Officials Election And Recall Act" (選罷法), the "Anti-Infiltration Act" (反滲透法), and statutes related to document forgery. These allegations raise questions about the legality of the company's campaign activities and financial practices. The scope of the investigation suggests potential irregularities in multiple areas.
The Taipei District Prosecutors Office asserts jurisdiction in the case, arguing that the company’s campaign products were sold within its jurisdiction. The investigation, which began on Feb. 27, has already involved searches at five locations, including those linked to one of the defendants, Su Yi-shun (蘇意舜), the head of "Zhan Tianxia Co., Ltd.". Three additional locations connected to the defendant surnamed Lee, were searched on March 11 and again on Friday, March 14.
Fu Kun-chi criticized the investigation, questioning the Taipei District Prosecutors Office’s jurisdiction in Hualien and accusing the government of politically motivated persecution of opposition parties. He called on President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) to intervene and halt what he characterized as an unjust targeting of political opponents. Fu maintained that all related cases had been concluded after the election and that the funds in question were locally sourced and not influenced by Chinese capital.
The Taipei District Prosecutors Office defended its actions, emphasizing its commitment to impartiality and stating that all prosecutorial decisions are based on evidence and conducted with neutrality. The office's statement underscores its commitment to following due process and upholding the rule of law in its investigation. The investigation continues as authorities gather evidence and assess the validity of the allegations against the company and individuals involved.
