TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A cold air mass is sweeping across Taiwan, bringing increased moisture and a high chance of rain to the Greater Taipei area, eastern regions, and the Hengchun Peninsula as reported by the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) on Tuesday (Feb. 18).
The CWA predicts heavy localized rainfall in Keelung's northern coast, Yilan, and Greater Taipei's mountainous areas.
The CWA has indicated that temperatures will be colder in the mornings and evenings, with Tainan northward and Yilan seeing lows of 13 to 14 degrees Celsius. Other areas will experience lows around 15 to 16 degrees. Daytime highs in the north and the Yilan-Hualien regions will range from 16 to 19 degrees, while other areas will see slightly lower temperatures, maintaining highs of 21 to 23 degrees.
In Penghu, temperatures will vary between 14 and 17 degrees, while Kinmen will see 11 to 17 degrees and Matsu will experience 9 to 11 degrees. The CWA forecasts strong northeasterly winds, with gusts of 8 to 9 on the Beaufort scale affecting coastal and exposed areas from Tainan northward, Hengchun Peninsula, Orchid Island, Green Island, Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu.
From the afternoon, coastal areas from Taoyuan to Yunlin, Hengchun Peninsula, Orchid Island, Green Island, and Penghu will see gusts strengthening to 9 to 10. Strong winds are also expected in coastal areas of New Taipei, Chiayi, Tainan, and Matsu, prompting the CWA to advise caution for seaside activities.
