TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) forecaster Kuan Hsin-ping (官欣平) reminded the public on Monday (Feb.17) that Taiwan should brace for a chilly week ahead as two cold air masses prepare to descend.
The first cold air mass will persist until Wednesday morning, bringing significant temperature drops to the north and Yilan-Hualien regions. A second cold air mass will affect the entire island starting Friday, potentially dropping northern Taiwan temperatures to 11 degrees Celsius in some areas.
Today, Taiwan enjoys partly cloudy to sunny skies, with rain focused on windward areas. Kuan noted that temperatures in some areas may drop to 11°C, and the intensity of the cold air mass requires continuous monitoring. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the cold air mass will bring heavy rainfall to the north coast, Yilan, and the mountainous areas of Greater Taipei. Sporadic showers are expected in the central and northern mountainous regions.
The cold air mass will weaken on Thursday, resulting in scattered rain in the north and central mountainous regions, while the eastern half will experience localized showers. From Friday through the weekend, the second cold air mass will bring rain to areas north of Taoyuan and the eastern half, with sporadic showers in the north and central mountainous regions, with temperatures in northern Taiwan likely to dip to 12-13 degrees Celsius over the weekend.
