YILAN (TVBS News) — Temperatures at Taipingshan (太平山) in Yilan plummeted to -3 degrees Celsius on early Saturday (Feb. 8), with sleet beginning to fall at 8 a.m. The chill attracted numerous visitors eager to capture the rare snowy landscape at Taipingshan National Forest Recreation Area (太平山國家森林遊樂區).

The Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency's Yilan Branch (林業及自然保育署宜蘭分署) reported that temperatures dropped to -1°C after nightfall on Friday. Despite the cold, roads leading to the park remained ice-free, allowing it to open at 6 a.m. Officials may implement traffic controls based on road conditions as the day progresses.

Meanwhile, the Wuling Pavilion (武嶺亭) at Mount Hehuan (合歡山) became another hotspot for snow chasers, with temperatures dipping to -4°C. The Hehuanshan National Forest Recreation Area (合歡山國家森林遊客區) advised visitors to prioritize safety and stay warm during their visit.

As Taiwan experiences this cold snap, tourists and locals flock to these scenic spots to glimpse snow. Visitors should remain vigilant and prepared for sudden weather changes as authorities monitor conditions and ensure safety.
