TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei's Department of Sports (台北市體育局) announced on Friday (Feb. 7) that it will ask the Farglory Dome Company (遠雄巨蛋公司) to evaluate the possibility of extending the current NT$20 Taipei Metro (台北捷運) fare subsidy of the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall Station (國父紀念館站) to its adjacent stations.
Chan Wei-yuan (詹為元), a Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) Taipei City councilor, highlighted that the Taipei Dome (大巨蛋) has become a significant venue for events, drawing many visitors who prefer using the metro.
The councilor stated that the current policy restricts the subsidy to passengers exiting the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall Station, leading to inconvenience complaints. Residents expressed frustration that those disembarking at other stations or using alternative transportation prior to or after attending events at the Taipei Dome can't receive the subsidy, contradicting the city's traffic diversion efforts.
Therefore, the councilor suggested including the Taipei City Hall Station (市政府站) in the subsidy scope to enhance accessibility.
The Taipei Department of Sports' move today addresses public concerns about the current subsidy policy's limitations. The department also reminded the public that attendees at the Taipei Dome can obtain the NT$20 subsidy by scanning a QR code at the venue after events.
