TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB, 刑事警察局) announced Friday (Feb. 7) that a suspect wanted for multiple serious offenses will face deportation back to Taiwan after U.S. procedures conclude, which may take several weeks.
Authorities have detained a Taiwanese fugitive, surnamed Tsai (蔡), in the U.S. after a collaborative operation between the Los Angeles Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Taiwanese police.
The 45-year-old suspect fled to the U.S. in 2017 after being implicated in a fatal drunk-driving incident and the sexual assault of a minor. CIB emphasized that tracking down Taiwanese fugitives abroad remains a priority and maintaining close collaboration with international law enforcement agencies.
This case involved coordinated efforts with the U.S. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the DEA.
President Trump's administration began launching a large-scale crackdown on illegal immigrants after his inauguration in January, with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) leading the charge, supported by multiple federal agencies. The Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) is currently holding Tsai while the fugitive awaits deportation.
