TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) announced that on Monday (Dec. 16), the continental cold air mass has weakened, bringing slightly warmer daytime temperatures across Taiwan. Northern Taiwan will experience highs around 17 to 18 degrees Celsius, while central, southern, and eastern regions will see temperatures ranging from 19 to 21 degrees Celsius.
The CWA reported increased chances of rain due to the influence of northeast winds and southern cloud systems moving northward. Rainfall is likely along the northern coast of Keelung, the eastern half, southern regions, and mountainous areas north of central Taiwan. Other regions, including Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu, will remain mostly cloudy.
The CWA warned of strong gusts in coastal and open areas from Taoyuan to Yunlin, as well as the Hengchun Peninsula, Orchid Island, Green Island, and Penghu.
Meanwhile, temperatures in northern and northeastern regions will drop to 12 to 14 degrees Celsius, while southern and eastern Taiwan will see lows between 15 and 17 degrees Celsius. Penghu will maintain temperatures from 17 to 19 degrees Celsius, Kinmen will range from 12 to 17 degrees Celsius, and Matsu will experience 11 to 13 degrees Celsius.
The CWA also noted a chance of ice and rime formation on mountains above 3,000 meters, urging caution for those engaging in mountaineering activities. As weather patterns shift, residents should remain vigilant and prepared for sudden changes.
