TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan is bracing for its coldest weather of the season as the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) announced Thursday (Dec. 12) that a continental cold air mass will sweep across the island starting Saturday. The CWA reported that the northeasterly monsoon will bring cooler temperatures to areas north of Taoyuan and Yilan today and Friday.
Meteorologist Lin Te-en (林德恩) noted that the wind chill effect will make temperatures feel 1 to 3 degrees Celsius cooler, enhancing the cold sensation. From Saturday to Monday, early morning temperatures in some low-lying areas are expected to drop below 10 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, weather forecaster Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) wrote in his column that the latest models indicate a strong cold air mass will move southward starting Friday afternoon, causing temperatures to drop further as the day progresses.
Wu pointed out that Saturday to Monday will be the coldest period, with northern, northeastern, and eastern regions experiencing colder weather. Other areas will also feel the chill, especially during the early mornings and evenings. Residents are advised to prepare for the significant drop in temperatures and take necessary precautions to stay warm.
