TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC, 台積電) founder Morris Chang (張忠謀) launched his new autobiography on Monday (Dec. 9), gathering an elite crowd with an average net worth exceeding NT$10 billion. Barry Lam (林百里), Quanta Computer Inc (廣達) founder and chairman, Taiwan's richest individual, led the pack with a net worth surpassing NT$100 billion.
Chang's wife, Sophie Chang (張淑芬), TSMC Chairman Mark Liu (魏哲家), and Board Director Tseng Fan-cheng (曾繁城) attended the event. Powerchip chairman Frank Huang (黃崇仁) and Yageo Corp (國巨) Chairman Pierre Chen (陳泰銘) also showed their support.
Chang retired from TSMC on June 5, 2018, when the stock closed at NT$229. If he retained his 1,251,370 shares, valued at NT$1,065 as of Dec. 6, his holdings would now be worth NT$133.27 billion. His longtime ally, Tseng, holds 290,000 shares, making him a billionaire with a net worth of NT$31.88 billion at the current stock price.
Lam owns 4,157,380 shares in Quanta, valued at NT$297 each as of Dec. 6, totaling NT$141.294 billion. In May, Forbes ranked him 168th among the world's top 500 billionaires, with a fortune of US$12.1 billion.
