TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) reported on Thursday (Dec. 5) that northeastern monsoon conditions will bring scattered showers to areas, including Keelung's northern coast, the northeast, the east, and Matsu. The Greater Taipei mountainous areas and southeastern regions may also experience isolated showers.
Rainfall will intensify and expand over Keelung's northern coast, the northeast, and Greater Taipei's mountain areas by evening. Meteorologist Lin Te-en (林得恩) advised residents to remain alert for heavier localized rain.
Temperatures will range from 17 to 19 degrees Celsius in the early morning and evening, with daytime highs reaching 20 to 24 degrees in the north, northeast, and east. Starting Saturday, cold air from the north will lower temperatures further, with the coldest period expected from Sunday night to Monday morning.
Meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) warned of weak cold air moving south, causing northern Taiwan to turn damp and slightly cold. Monday and Tuesday will see drier conditions, with mostly cloudy skies in the western half and occasional brief showers in the east.
Wu added that the latest European model simulation indicates this cold air will be weak, with Taipei's lowest temperature around 16 degrees. Although some areas may see temperatures drop to about 13 degrees due to radiative cooling, conditions do not warrant a cold weather warning.
