NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) announced Monday (Nov. 11) plans to develop safety measures and enhance public awareness following a recent attack on the Taipei Metro. On Nov. 8, a woman attacked passengers with a utility knife at Xinpu Station (新埔站) on the Bannan Line (板南線), resulting in one student injured.

Chiang emphasized that the victim, who is a student, his quick action significantly reduced potential harm. He urged the Taipei Metro, police department, and education bureau to devise safety protocols, including increased patrols, higher police visibility, and comprehensive security alerts. Chiang also stressed the importance of educating passengers on self-defense and suspect restraint techniques.

New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) pledged collaboration with Taipei to implement a three-tier patrol network, enhancing police presence. This plan involves security personnel, Taipei Metro police, and local police forces working together to ensure safety.
