KMT‘s Hou Yu-ih questions DPP‘s energy policies (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang (KMT) presidential candidate Hou Yu-ih questioned Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate Lai Ching-te about Taiwan's energy policy during the second policy presentation on Tuesday (Dec. 26).
Hou probed specifically into Lai's stance on the "nuclear-free homeland" policy and his attitude toward nuclear power generation.
The KMT candidate doubted Lai's viewpoints, inferring that if Lai believes "nuclear units cannot be stopped," it implies Taiwan's nuclear power plants may need to extend their lifespan.
He also questioned the DPP candidate's "clean coal" concept regarding the current coal-fired power plants and its potential impact on the prevalence of pulmonary adenocarcinoma in Taiwan.
The KMT candidate criticized the DPP's goal of the transformation to "net-zero carbon emissions," arguing that even the announced 2030 target of reducing carbon emissions by 24% to 25% is unattainable, arguing against the party's policies as being out of step with global trends.
