TAIPEI (TVBS News) — As Taiwan gears up for its presidential and legislative election registration period, spanning from Monday (Nov. 20) to Friday, the political atmosphere is charged with mounting anticipation.

Taiwan People's Party (TPP) presidential candidate Ko Wen-je reiterated on Sunday his resolve to remain the party's candidate amid unsuccessful talks with Kuomintang (KMT) candidate. Meanwhile, KMT Chairman Eric Chu announced his plan to finalize the Blue-White alliance decision by Wednesday.

Chu revealed that negotiations with the TPP are nearing completion, expressing his commitment to achieving a change in government leadership. KMT presidential candidate Hou Yu-ih, respecting Ko's stance, stressed the importance of party alternation, a sentiment Chu shared during the KMT's Central Standing Committee meeting.

However, the Blue-White alliance's future remains uncertain following divergent interpretations of polling data by the KMT and TPP. Ko's recent pledge to continue his presidential campaign undermines the likelihood of a Blue-White alliance, adding to the election's unpredictability.

In contrast, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has finalized its ticket, with Lai Ching-te running for president and Hsiao Bi-khim, Taiwan's representative to the U.S., for vice president.
