TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Labor (MOL) resolved in a meeting on Friday (Sept. 8) to raise the minimum monthly wage in 2024 to NT$27,470, a hike of 4.05%, and the hourly wage will increase by NT$7 to NT$183.

Before the meeting, Labor Minister Hsu Ming-chun addressed the public's growing concerns about high inflation, and companies' willingness to increase wages to attract workers amidst labor shortages as industrial performances have improved post-pandemic.

Meanwhile, Chiang Chien-hsing, chairman of the Taiwan Confederation of Trade Unions, stressed that continual inflation is hitting workers hard, urging the need to raise monthly salaries.

Delegates representing industries at the meeting, however, feared that the wage rise might cause an extra burden on some business sectors.

In related news, a job bank survey revealed that up to 90% of workers expressed dissatisfaction with their current compensation. Among the surveyed, 75% admitted their salary remained stagnant this year, while 25% reported no raise over five years.
